EMD Founder- Dean Hunt

“Coming through the toughest time of my life, ‘Exercise My Demons’ was both my mantra and the physical fight to silence my demons. Exercise was a shit-tonne more helpful than alcohol and cannabis. I chose the gym and long walks to be in a space where I could reason with my demons , get some calm in my mind, while feeling some freedom and a sense of achievement through losing weight and getting strong, both physically and mentally.” - Dean

Roots

The foundation of our movement

Skateboarding

Our roots in skateboarding run deep and that culture is strongly reflected in Exercise My Demons. The grit, resilience, and raw creativity that define skateboarding show up in the brand’s attitude, its style, and even its soundtrack.

“In skateboarding, we have a ‘never give up’ mentality—whether it’s landing a trick after countless attempts or just committing to step back on the board every day. For me, it’s a lifelong addiction.” — Dean Hunt

Punk

Punk music and musicians directly influence ideas for Exercise My Demons. Straight-edged punk Henry Rollins inspires with his lyrics and his lifestyle. Rollins was a gym goer from a young age, using working out to become stronger both mentally and physically. “Punk culture taught me to be proud of who I am and to be true to my beliefs. As skaters, we loved the high intensity bands to get the juices flowing before a skate session.” - Dean

Gym & boxing

Exercise My Demons was inspired by the idea that movement can be medicine—for the mind as much as the body. The gym can feel overwhelming at first, but when you find a form of training that clicks, it pulls you in. You keep showing up, hungry to learn, to grow, to get stronger—not just physically, but in every part of life.

“In recent years I’ve skated less, due to injuries, but found the gym, and boxing, which is helping build confidence and stamina, and resilience in every day life. It feels like the piece/peace I was missing.” — Dean Hunt
